Graduating with an honours Batchelor of Design Degree in Visual Communications (Graphic Design) in June of 2008 I started working with Modern Printers later that year. This gave my design career a great start, gaining valuable experience working in the design & print industry.
The following year, seeking professional and personal development and experience, I spent some time living abroad, in both Australia & Canada. During my time in Canada I worked for an online international company as a Graphic Designer and Design Project Estimator. Here, I gained huge experience working with people from all over the world, tackling different design styles & sensitivities, and also language barriers.
I returned to Ireland in 2017, and jumped at the chance to return to Modern Printers. I have enjoyed working on many new and exciting projects with the team here since my return.
Specialist skills include design for foiling, letterpress, embossing (2D & 3D), spot uv, custom diecuts and design for large format. I have experience designing an extensive range of items, which include but are not limited to: Branding & stationary packages, wedding packages, vehicle wraps, internal & external signage, retail design packages & custom packaging (boxes, stickers, tissue, wrapping paper).
I am proficient in working with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Lightroom. I am also experienced with Quark xPress, Dimensions, XD, Dreamweaver and Flash; and am constantly updating my experience and knowledge by taking online course and working through tutorials.

Lead Graphic Designer

I have worked in print and graphic design for a number of years. Before joining Modern Printers, I worked in Europrint, Carlow as senior designer, in the Nationalist newspaper and in two Dublin companies. My knowledge of design software, capability of interpreting client briefs, attention to detail and organisational skills will bring your project from start to finish in a professional manner. I work as closely with the client as possible to achieve an outcome.
I am extremely time conscious and will notify a client if I can foresee any issues coming. The various software I am comfortable in are… Indesign, Quark Xpress, Illustrator and Photoshop. I have extensive experience creating, managing and designing to help get your product or service noticed.
Rachel Townsend
Graphic Designer
Modern Printers, Kilkenny
In 2015, I completed a BA (Hons) in Design (Visual Communications) at Waterford Institute of Technology. While at college I was presented with the Bronze Gaisce Award (The President’s Award), I won the TSSG Logo competition for the Aquasmart logo and I was selected to exhibit some of my work during the Sean Dunne Writers’ Festival in the Greyfriars Municipal Art Gallery.
After College I interned in Nova UCD with Connectors Marketplace for three months and I also gained experience with the Design Craft Council of Ireland. In May 2015 I joined Cantec as a Graphic Designer and in July 2019 I joined the Modern Printers team as a Graphic Designer. I am also studying a Higher Diploma in Interaction Design at Dublin City University.
